Waterfonie is a collaborative art project initiated by a photographer and performance artist Ulay.
Waterfonie focuses on artist’s interpretations of drinking water and fresh water related issues. Artist for Water - water through the artful eye - wishes to appeal to the art community for anticipations and contributions to generate an ever growing virtual 'water' art collection, to eventually become a streaming new view on water or curated, presented in the format of an exhibition or in printed matter.
Why artist's for water?
The fresh- or drinking water issue has become a 'top of the agenda' priority of about all world 'caring' organizations, like the UN, WB, UNICEF, WWC, WWF, ... to name a few, as it has become a permanent issue in all printed and digital media.
The former publishes mostly statistics, numbers and graphics. The latter tends , to make us responsible (for all) by rather cynical reports and stories.
We know that about every 15 seconds a child dies of water born diseases - that is by no means to express in graphics or numbers or heart breaking images. Neither by cynical reports and images.
Water covers everything but not everything covers water and that is my appeal!
YOU CAN'T STEP TWICE IN THE SAME RIVER
As an artist for 40 years now and temporarily curator for waterfonie, I desire to appear to the art community, to give an other imago to water, which is more appealing, more worth it, respected and valued. Water through the artful eye.
